“The time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will accumulate teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new. They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4).
Paul was telling Timothy that in the future, and even during Timothy’s time, people would turn away from hearing the truth about God, salvation, Biblical history, etc. and instead listen to everything else. This is what we see today. There are countless world religions and philosophies. The Age of Enlightenmentsparked a wide-scale exodus away from Biblical truths. New Age and occult practice are becoming more rampant, tearing people away from Jesus and sending them on a path of destruction. The Theory of Evolutionis another distraction from God’s truth. It teaches that all life is a random accident and there is no purpose other than to survive and pass on our genes. Many preachers today are more focused on being seeker-sensitive, growing the church numerically, pursuing social justice, hyper-emotionalism, and ecumenicalism. More and more we see a decline in solid, Biblical teaching, and the message of cross is rarely heard
This was a problem in Timothy’s time, and it’s an ever-increasing problem today. Ensure your church teaches from the Bible. Take notes during the service and check up on what your pastor taught. Be like the Bereans (Acts 17:11) and search the Scriptures to verify the truth.
Everybody has a worldview. A worldview is a person’s view of the world, to put it short. It is how a person understands the world around them based on a multitude of factors. Person A may have the worldview that there is no God and that all things happen through natural processes. Person B may have the worldview that there is a God and He created everything. Person A sees a human being and understands that the human evolved from a common apelike ancestor millions of years ago. Person B sees a human being and understands that God created humans in His own image on the 6th day of creation. Person A sees how there are various species of dogs and understands this to be a form of evolution. Person B sees the same dogs, but understands that these are variations within the animal kind, which some refer to as micro-evolution. Both individuals will understand everything that happens in their life and around them based on their worldview.
Some may say that scientists are unbiased in their research and only respond to what the evidence shows, but all scientists have a worldview. For more information, please see the article about Evidence.
To keep with the topic of Creation and Evolution, check out the following two websites: “Talk origins” (a secular interpretation of the evidence, and “True Origins” (a rebuttal/creationist interpretation of the evidence). In addition, Talk Origins has a list of Creationist Claims that they have rebuttals for. Likewise, Creation Wiki has answers to those rebuttals here.
Regarding the Creation/Evolution debate: The argument is not about the evidence, it is about the interpretation of the evidence. When this concept can be understood by both parties, a simple truth is revealed: The argument is about the origin of the evidences. Are the evidences the product of natural selection and random mutation without any intelligent force behind it, or was the evidence a product of an Intelligent Creator? The arguments for evidences will be fruitless and time consuming because both evolutionists and creationists have an answer to explain the evidences. Instead, arguments for God or non-god get to the heart of the matter.
The Theory of Evolution and Atheism are too separate concepts, but often times an atheist is also a believer in the evolutionary theory, which states we all have a common ancestor and humans are advanced animals. Humans have no purpose in life except to survive and they have no destiny when life is over. As an animal, we can do whatever we want or need to do in order to survive. Animals are selfish by nature, and evolution requires that behavior. If there is a God, then we will one day be held accountable for our actions and therefore have a reason to do what is right. An offense to a Holy God requires and infinite punishment. God has revealed Himself through his creation (Romans 1) and through his Word. Rejection of God’s Word will lead to rejection of Him. Rejection of God will lead to an eternal punishment. God is loving, but he is also just. Otherwise, all of the Adolph Hitlers and Osama bin Ladens of the world would be in Heaven and not have to be accountable for their actions on earth. If that were true, we could all do whatever we wanted to and forget about being responsible. It’s not like that though. Eternity is a long time to think about where you went wrong.
