Did dinosaurs exist with man?

Although secular scientists, and the majority of people for that matter, believe that dinosaurs died out millions of years ago, there is much supporting evidence to show the contrary.  What kind of evidence would one expect to find if dinosaurs and man co-existed?  Here are some non-biblical accounts of dinosaurs existing with man:

  • A Sumerian story dating back to 2000 BC or earlier tells of a hero named Gilgamesh, who, when he went to fell cedars in a remote forest, encountered a huge vicious dragon that he slew, cutting off its head as a trophy.
  • When Alexander the Great (c. 330 BC) and his soldiers marched into India, they found that the Indians worshiped huge hissing reptiles that they kept in caves.
  • China is renowned for its dragon stories, and dragons are prominent on Chinese pottery, embroidery, and carvings.
  • England and several other cultures retain the story of St. George, who slew a dragon that lived in a cave.
  • There is the story of a tenth-century Irishman who wrote of his encounter with what appears to have been a Stegosaurus.
  • In the 1500s, a European scientific book, Historia Animalium, listed several living animals that we would call dinosaurs. A well-known naturalist of the time, Ulysses Aldrovandus, recorded an encounter between a peasant named Baptista and a dragon whose description fits that of the small dinosaur Tanystropheus. The encounter was on May 13, 1572, near Bologna in Italy, and the peasant killed the dragon.

Lastly, here is a listing of words used from around the world to describe dinosaurs.  This further verifies that in the past there was a world-wide existence of dinosaurs.

What are some evidences for a young Earth?

Here are a few of the evidences for a young Earth:

Earth has a magnetic field that has gradually been decaying.  Since 1835, it has decreased by 14%.  If we go by the uniformitarian concept, then just 7,000 years ago the magnetic field would have been 32 times stronger, and 1 million years ago it would have had such a powerful force that everything, including itself, would have been vaporized.  Clearly, the magnetic field could not have been in existence for millions of years.

The moon has been receding from the Earth at a rate of 4 centimeters per year.  Again, using the uniformitarian concept, just 20,000 years ago the moon would have been so close to the Earth that it would have fallen into our planet.  The moon therefore cannot be over 10,000 years old.

Using the uniformitarian concept where the ocean is billions of years old, it should have 60 to 100 miles of sediment at the ocean floor, but on average the floor is only about ½ miles thick.

Civilization is our last example. The oldest historical records date back to 3500 B.C.  The oldest writings are found on Sumerian tablets dated at 3500 B.C.  Records of ancient languages are never dated beyond 3000 B.C.  Using population growth statistics, we could have reached our current rate of population in just 3200 years.  However, if man has been in existence for millions of years, we would have an overwhelming population of humans today and the Earth would be uncomfortably crowded.

RTG recommends this article from Dr. Johnathan Sarfati regarding flaws in the evolutionary understanding of earth processes and dating methods, as well as more evidence for a young earth.  Included at the bottom of the article are two related videos.  (Note: after clicking the following link, you will be taken to an introduction video.  After it plays, or if you choose to close out that video, you can then view the article.)

Do Peppered Moths prove evolution?

Peppered moths are used as evidence for evolution, but this is not evolution at all, even though it is still used as evidence in textbooks. There are two types of the peppered moth—a lighter color and darker color.  Students are taught that during the industrial revolution in England, soot and grime from the factories landed on the trees causing the bark to darken.  The dark moth was more camouflaged on the trees but the lighter moth wasn’t, making it visible to the birds.  It was believed by evolutionists that the light moth evolved into a dark moth so that it would be camouflage and not get eaten by the birds.

The truth is that the dark and light moth both existed beforehand and still exists today.  Neither moth adapted to the environment.  The gene for color was in both species at one time in the past, but due to genetics and isolation, over time only the light moths produced more light moths, and the dark moths only produced more dark moths.   When the dark moth blended in with the dark trees, the light moth was easily seen and eaten by the birds, so the dark moth was able to reproduce and thrive.  This is an example of survival of the fittest.

Does the evidence point to Evolution or Creation?

Evolutionists claim that the similarities in life forms are evidence that we all come from a common ancestor.  For example, generally speaking, all land animals and humans have the following: one head, one pair of eyes, one pair of ears, one nose with two nostrils, one mouth, two arms/fore legs, two legs/hind legs, and fingers and toes, or paws (for animals).  This would seem like good evidence for evolution.  But if we use the same observable evidence and look at it from the Creationist perspective, we would expect our God to make his creation using common attributes.  Many life forms have similar strands of DNA, and these strands produce certain information, such as instructions for creating hair, eyes, or lungs.  This doesn’t mean we are related but rather, God used the same method for creating various types of life.

Compare this to an artist.  The artist may use the same types of paints, same colors, same brushes, same canvases, and same brush strokes, but the artist does not reproduce the same picture each time.  Although the paintings may have similar characteristics and were made with the same products, this does not mean one came from the other but rather, they both came from one creative designer.  Remember that the evidence is based on interpretations filtered through our worldview.

What is evidence?

Source: Answers in Genesis

In the legal system, evidence is an item or statement that helps to prove or disprove a person’s guilt.  For example, a crime scene might show a discharged bullet casing, a bloody foot print, and a hair follicle.  These three things are evidence, but they do not prove as a fact that the person in question shot the gun, stepped in the blood, and lost a hair follicle during the crime.  The three piece of evidence do not talk; they just exist and must be interpreted based on the other evidences (and a crafty lawyer).  Evidence may strongly imply something, such as the accused criminal being at the scene of the crime, but it still not clear and convincing proof.

Let’s apply this to the topic of Evolution and Creationism.  If a dinosaur bone is found, one can look at it and identify it as a femur belonging to a Triceratops.  You cannot tell how the animal died, what it’s skin looked like, or how old the bone is (see the article on radiometric dating flaws).  Your evidence is only a bone.  Your interpretation of the evidence is based on your worldview.  If you believe in the Theory of Evolution, then you will conclude that the dinosaur died out about 65 million years ago (according to current scientific beliefs).  If you believe in the Bible, then you will understand that the dinosaur was created on Day 6 during the Creation Week, and the dinosaur most likely died during the catastrophic flood that buried all living things in sedimentary rock, which then turned the dead animals and plants into fossils.

What caused the formation of the fossil record?

The fossil record in the theoretical geologic column shows that sea creatures are at the bottom of the sedimentary rock layers, which evolutionists claim as evidence that they have been in existence the longest because the lowest layers of sedimentary rock are supposedly the oldest.  This is also why evolutionists believe that life started in the oceans.  As the “ages” of rock in the geologic column decrease, more complex fossils are found.  What would cause this arrangement of fossils?

During Noah’s flood, you can imagine that the animals in the ocean were the first to be buried because they were at the lowest point of sea level.  As the waters grew higher and higher onto the coast land and low lands, people and animals sought shelter at higher elevations.  Animals that were slow moving were not able to make it to the higher land and were then buried by water and sediment.  Humans, faster land animals, and birds were able to make it to the high land, but eventually they too were covered in the water and sediment, and some of them turned into fossils.  The layers we see today in sedimentary rock were the result of hydrological sorting.  Check out the following video at the bottom to see an experiment of such sorting.  Go to 3:00 to see the experiment.

Another suggested article is here where it explains the layering of fossils, and it also includes a link to many out of place fossils along with references.

Are super bugs evidence of evolution?

Some have said that “super-bugs,” that is, antibiotic resistant bacteria, are perfect examples of evolution.  Typically, antibiotic medications are used to eradicate a bacterial (not viral) infections, but “super-bugs” are immune to these antibiotics.  Is this really evolution in the sense that the bacteria are better or evolved?

Let’s look at an example using the H. Pylori bacteria. When an antibiotic is introduced to these bacteria, H. Pylori produces an enzyme that converts the antibiotic into a poison, thus killing the bacteria. However, there is a mutation of these bacteria that has lost the capability of producing the enzyme.  Therefore, when the antibiotic is introduced, it is ineffective to the mutation (the poison is not produced) and the mutated bacteria continue to thrive.  Although the mutant H. Pylori has survived, it has actually lost important enzyme-producing information.

The Theory of Evolution states that living things gain more information in their DNA resulting in an evolution of more complex organisms.  If life came from a single celled organism millions of years ago, and today we have intricate organs, cells, brains, nervous systems, etc., then clearly we humans have more information in our DNA than our distant, single-celled ancestor.  However, there is no mechanism via natural selection or mutations to ever add this beneficial information.  Instead, information is lost or damaged and no new information is added.

To conclude, super-bugs would be more aptly called “weaker-bugs” because they have lost an important function.  If the mutants are paired with the “normal” bacteria, the normal ones would thrive and consume the resources while the mutants would die out.

What is the difference between operational and historical science?

Science in and of itself means “knowledge” and knowledge can be attained through two types of sciences: observational and historical.

Source: Answers in Genesis

Operational science is the broad field of science where experiments are performed and results are observed.  In this field, which includes chemistry, physics, hydraulics, engineering, modern technology, etc., experiments can be done to test a hypothesis, and the experiment can be repeated to measure validity and reliability.  This is the type of science that has given us computers, cell phones, televisions, and put men on the moon.

Source: Answers in Genesis

Historical science includes the fields of archaeology and paleontology, to name a few.  These scientists “dig up the past” and come to conclusions based on interpretations of the evidence.  The interpretations are based on the scientist’s worldview and therefore are subjective.  Various forms of radiometric dating can be performed on the artifacts to determine how old they are, but these dating methods are based on assumptions

Both the Theory of Evolution and Creationism are historical sciences because all things studied have happened in the past.  The evidence use to support evolution is the same evidence used to support Creation but the differences depend on the worldview-based interpretations of the evidence.  Both have reasonable conclusions, but only one can be correct since they are complete opposites.

How many copies of the New Testament are in existence today?

Compared to other ancient writings, there are many, many more copies of the New Testament than the others, thus giving us more reason to rely on the Bible’s accuracy.  Consider the following: There are 643 copies in existence of Homer’s Illiad, and there were 500 years in between the original writing and the first copy.  There are 49 copies of Plato’s Tetralogies, and 1300 hundred years in-between the original writings and the first copy.  Of Aristotle’s works, there are only 7 copies, and 1400 years in-between the first writing and the first copy.

Now consider the New Testament.  There are 5, 686 copies in the Greek language (remember that the NT was originally written in Greek), and there are 19,284 copies of the NT written in other languages.  There is a maximum of only 50 years in-between the original writings and the first copy!

Due to the larger amount of Scripture copies in existence, it would be more reasonable to question the philosophers than the Bible, but instead we see the opposite.

What are the Dead Sea Scrolls?

The Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) were a collection of scrolls and scroll fragments found in a cave in Qumran (near the Dead Sea) in 1947.  There were about 1000 leather documents stored in pots inside the cave.  One of the most significant finds of the DSS was a complete scroll of the book of Isaiah, which was dated at the earliest to have been written in 125 B.C.  This is significant because Isaiah has many prophecies about the coming Messiah, his birth, and his death.  This proves that Isaiah accurately prophesied about Jesus before He came to Earth.  The following link shows pictures of the Isaiah scroll that was found (dss.collections.imj.org.il)

Prior to the discovery of these scrolls, the earliest copies in possession dated back to only 1,000 years.  The DSS were dated 1,000 years older than the previous copies, making them about 2,000 years old.  The contents of the scrolls were the same as those written on the previously found scrolls.  This shows that the Bible has been accurately copied and translated for many, many centuries.  What we have today is an accurately translated Bible.
